Research over more than decades shows that our skies are less clear and we can’t see as far as we used to. The reasons for the hazy skies is pollution from car exhaust, aerosols, coal burning plants, forest fires and agricultural burning. Unless mankind takes care of the air we will continue to have decreased visibility above.

During the study period Europe actually experienced a decrease in haziness while Asia, Africa, Australia and South America had a noticeable increase in air pollution. Until everyone is partaking in conservation efforts it is feared that air pollution will no doubt increase over the coming decades.

The thought of having maggots help heal skin ulcers may make your skin crawl but new research shows they may not be the best method for healing. Since 2004 maggots have been approved for medical use to help heal skin ulcers by doing what they are best at, removing dead tissue. New research shows that while the little critters can clear away the dead tissue quicker than other methods, the wounds didn’t heal any faster. The medical gel that is commonly used actually showed a quicker healing time and less pain too.

Research Reveals Condors Bathe & Spend Hours Getting Clean for the Next Meal

2009March 22

Hard to believe that an animal whose meal is another animal is worried about personal hygiene and nothing makes a condor dirtier than chewing on a dead animal. Who would have guessed that condors really like to take care of themselves and their appearance.

After a meal, condors rub their heads in grass or branches to clean their necks and heads of any bits of meat. Studies show that condors bathe and spend hours smoothing and drying their feathers. They really value being clean.

Condors can eat two to three pound of food at one time then go for days without any food at all. They have a very poor sense of smell but their eyesight makes up for it as they have to visually find their next meal. They can fly at altitudes up to 15,000 feet and stay aloft for hours at a time. With a wingspan of up to 9-1/2 feet these are truly magnificent birds.

New studies show that we are consuming double the amount of salt than is currently recommended by many health organizations. With the increase in processed foods we are getting 9 to 12 grams a day instead of 5 to 6 grams recommended by some or the even lower 2.3 grams recommended by the American Heart Association.

Why should you care that you are eating too much salt? Increased sodium consumption is linked to high blood pressure and heart disease. Since we are eating almost double the amount of salt that we were in the 1970’s, the increase in high blood pressure rates have almost doubled in the past 30 years.

Research Reveals the Office Water Cooler May Make You Sick

REHYDRATE! REHYDRATE!

Studies show that our offices are hotbeds of germs. The water cooler may have more germs than anywhere else in the office, including the restroom. Tests show that while a toilet seat has an average of 50 microbes per square inch a water cooler spigot may have over 2.7 MILLION GERMS per square inch. This is due to the fact toilets are cleaned often and most water coolers are not.

As people bring their water bottles to the cooler for a refill, they are transferring the germs from the bottle back to the spigot of the water bottle. Your best defense is to wipe down the water cooler with disinfecting wipes daily to avoid bacterial build up. While you’re at it, give your desk, keyboard and telephone a good cleaning too since germs tend to lurk here as well.
